Unassigned Tasks

The Unassigned Tasks panel helps teams quickly detect if there are tasks without a responsible person, especially tasks already in progress or accumulated in the backlog. This is crucial for maintaining accountability and ensuring smooth delivery.

What It Shows

The widget displays two key indicators:

  • Number of unassigned tasks in progress – Tasks currently in a WIP status (In Progress, In Review, etc.) that do not have an assignee.
  • Percentage of unassigned backlog tasks – The proportion of backlog items (To Do, Ready, etc.) that have no owner.

This allows teams to spot:

  • Work currently happening without ownership.
  • Backlog hygiene issues that may impact future planning.

Why It Matters

Assigning ownership to tasks is essential for:

  • Clear accountability – Every task should have a directly responsible person.
  • Effective prioritization – Unassigned work often signals unclear scope or unplanned items.
  • Sprint and delivery success – Tasks in progress with no assignee are at higher risk of delay.

Unassigned Task Details

By clicking Show details, users can access a breakdown of all unassigned tasks, including:

  • Task Name (linked if available)
  • Current Status
  • Creation Date

Regularly reviewing this panel ensures no task falls through the cracks and supports a culture of ownership and accountability.
